Florida Unemployment Claims Rise After Thanksgiving Dip

Florida’s unemployment claims increased last week, according to a report released by the U.S. Department of Labor on Thursday.

The state saw 5,962 initial claims filed during the week ending December 7th, up from a revised 3,987 claims the previous week, which was shortened due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Nationally, initial jobless claims also rose, reaching 242,000 for the week ending December 7th. The national unemployment rate ticked up to 4.2% in November from 4.1% in October.

Florida’s unemployment rate has remained steady at 3.3% for the past seven months. The state Department of Commerce will release the November unemployment rate on December 20th.
