TAMPA, Fla. – A late-night hit-and-run incident on the Gandy Bridge has left a pedestrian dead and traffic backed up for hours.
Tampa Police Department officers responded to the scene in the 5100 block of West Gandy Boulevard around 11:00 PM on Wednesday, where they discovered the body of a deceased adult male.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but it appears the victim was struck by a vehicle while walking on the bridge. The driver responsible fled the scene, leaving police to piece together the events that led to this tragic incident.

Westbound lanes of Gandy Boulevard were closed at the 5100 block following the crash, causing significant traffic delays for those attempting to cross the bridge into Pinellas County.
The Tampa Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information regarding the suspect vehicle to contact them immediately.
