Get ready for crowded roads and packed airports this holiday season! AAA predicts that a record number of Floridians and Americans will be traveling for the year-end holidays.
In Florida, an estimated 7.1 million residents are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home between December 21st and January 1st. This surpasses last year’s record by 220,000 travelers.
Nationwide, AAA projects that 119.3 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more, narrowly exceeding the previous record set in 2019.

“Travelers should expect the roads, airports and cruise terminals to be more crowded than normal,” said Debbie Haas, Vice President of Travel for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “So, finalize your travel plans now and give yourself extra time to get to your destination. We also suggest travel insurance, which provides assistance in the event winter weather or something unexpected interferes with your plans.”
Factors driving this year’s travel surge:
- Strong consumer spending: Moderating inflation and rising wages are giving consumers more disposable income for travel.
- Robust employment: Strong employment numbers contribute to increased consumer confidence and spending power.
- Steady economic growth: Continued economic growth supports increased travel spending.
As the holiday season approaches, travelers are encouraged to plan ahead, be patient, and prioritize safety to ensure a smooth and enjoyable travel experience.
