Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, has announced her resignation as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), a position she has held since March.
Her departure comes as speculation grows about her potential candidacy to replace Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who is slated to become Secretary of State in the incoming administration.
In a statement posted on X, Lara Trump said her work at the RNC was “now complete,” highlighting achievements such as record-breaking fundraising, election integrity efforts, and increased voter turnout during her tenure.

Lara Trump has expressed interest in filling Rubio’s Senate seat, telling the Associated Press she would “seriously consider” the opportunity.
“If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like,” she told the AP. “And I certainly want to get all of the information possible if that is something that’s real for me. But yeah, I would 100% consider it.”
Lara Trump’s potential candidacy has garnered support from high-profile allies, including billionaire Elon Musk and his mother, Maye Musk, both close supporters of President-elect Donald Trump.
While Lara Trump’s name has gained traction among the president-elect’s allies, the decision ultimately lies with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. DeSantis has pledged to announce his choice for Rubio’s replacement by early January following a thorough vetting and interview process.

“This is a critical decision for Florida, and it will involve extensive vetting and candidate interviews,” DeSantis said, emphasizing his commitment to finding the right candidate to represent the state.
As Lara Trump transitions from her role at the RNC, her next steps remain uncertain. If selected to replace Rubio, she would step into a significant political role in Florida, building on her prominent position within the Trump political dynasty.
