HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla.– Hillsborough County has extended its state of local emergency as it continues to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
County Administrator Bonnie Wise signed an executive order extending the emergency declaration, which was originally issued on September 23rd as the storm approached Florida. The extension will remain in effect until December 16th.
This extension allows the county to continue taking necessary actions to protect public health and safety, and it facilitates access to federal funds for recovery efforts.

Hillsborough County is also under a separate state of emergency for Hurricane Milton, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the region due to the impact of multiple storms.
Governor Ron DeSantis has also declared a state of emergency for the entire state of Florida in response to Hurricane Helene.
The extended state of emergency underscores the severity of the hurricane’s impact on Hillsborough County and the ongoing need for resources and support as the community recovers and rebuilds.
