A former mail carrier has admitted to stealing credit cards from the mail and using them for fraudulent purchases. Daniel Diaz Garcia, 35, pleaded guilty to credit card fraud and mail theft charges.

Garcia, who worked as a mail carrier in Jacksonville, stole credit cards from mailboxes on his route. He then used these stolen cards to make purchases worth over $1,000.

According to court documents, in September 2023, Garcia began working as a highway contract carrier handling First Class mail delivery in Jacksonville.

While working in that capacity, Garcia stole mail, opened it, and removed the contents to include credit cards. An investigation by the USPS-OIG determined that Garcia stole credit cards belonging to various victims on his mail route.

Video surveillance from various businesses showed Garcia using the stolen credit cards to purchase more than $1,000 in merchandise. While questioning Garcia about his use of the stolen credit cards, law enforcement located an additional stolen credit card in his wallet.
