Eloise Man’s Attempt To Fool Polk County Deputies Lands Him In Jail

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Polk County man’s attempt to avoid arrest by assuming a false identity backfired, landing him in jail with additional charges.

On Thursday, November 14th, deputies arrived at the residence of 37-year-old Hugo Ortiz-Corona on 1st Street West in Eloise. Ortiz-Corona was wanted on an active warrant for Violation of Probation (Leaving the Scene of a Crash, No Valid Driver’s License).

When deputies knocked on the door, Ortiz-Corona answered but claimed his name was “Sergio.”

Despite knowing his true identity, the deputy asked for identification. Unable to produce any, Ortiz-Corona retreated into his house and sat on the couch, refusing to cooperate.

Deputies entered the residence, apprehended Ortiz-Corona, and escorted him to a patrol car.

In addition to the original warrant, Ortiz-Corona was charged with Providing a False Identification to a Law Enforcement Officer and Resisting Arrest. He was booked into the Polk County Jail.
