President-elect Donald Trump nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the next Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Thursday.
HHS, one of the largest Cabinet agencies, oversees critical functions such as drug and vaccine safety, food safety, medical research, and major social safety net programs like Medicare and Medicaid.
“Robert F Kennedy Jr will be The Secretary of Health and Human Services! Promises Made, Promises Kept,” said Donald Trump Jr. on X.

Kennedy, who initially ran as an independent candidate in the 2024 presidential race, dropped out after reaching an agreement with Trump. The deal reportedly included Kennedy endorsing Trump in exchange for a prominent role in shaping health policy within the new administration.
Since then, Kennedy has become a close ally of Trump, often appearing at his rallies and receiving enthusiastic support from the crowd.
