Chris Wallace Exits CNN To Pursue Independent Media

Veteran journalist Chris Wallace has announced his departure from CNN after a three-year tenure. Wallace plans to explore opportunities in independent media, such as podcasting and streaming.

The 77-year-old journalist, known for his roles at Fox News and NBC News, believes that independent media platforms are becoming increasingly influential. He cited the impact of podcasters like Joe Rogan and Charlamagne tha God on the 2024 presidential election as a driving factor behind his decision.

CNN CEO Mark Thompson acknowledged Wallace’s contributions to the network, thanking him for his dedication and wishing him well in his future endeavors.

“Chris Wallace is one of the most respected political journalists in the news business with a unique track record across radio, print, broadcast television, cable television and streaming,” Thompson said. “We want to thank him for the dedication and wisdom he’s brought to all his work at CNN and to wish him the very best for the future.”

Wallace’s departure comes at a time when CNN has been facing significant challenges in maintaining viewership. The network experienced its lowest-rated primetime week in May 2024, highlighting the declining interest in traditional cable news.
