President-elect Donald Trump has selected U.S. Representative Michael Waltz, a retired Army National Guard officer and combat veteran, to serve as his national security adviser, according to the Associated Press.
The announcement comes despite concerns on Capitol Hill about pulling GOP members from the House, where the balance of power remains uncertain.
Removing a sitting representative could prompt a special election to fill the vacancy.

Waltz would take a leading role in addressing several urgent national security issues. These include the ongoing U.S. effort to supply military aid to Ukraine, rising tensions over the Russia-North Korea alliance, and escalating attacks in the Middle East by Iranian-backed proxy groups.
He will also face the challenge of navigating the push for a cease-fire in the conflict involving Israel, Hamas, and Hezbollah.
The decision to appoint Waltz, a well-regarded figure with extensive military experience, signals Trump’s intent to have a strong, hands-on approach to national security in his upcoming administration. An official announcement is expected soon.
