Northern Israel was hit by a barrage of more than 165 rockets fired by Hezbollah on Monday, leaving seven people injured, including a toddler. The escalation comes as Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar reported “certain progress” toward a potential ceasefire in Lebanon.
According to The Times of Israel, the attack injured a 27-year-old woman, a 35-year-old man, and a 1-year-old girl, all struck by shrapnel in the northern Arab town of Bi’ina. Paramedics rushed the victims to Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya, where the woman is in moderate condition, while the man and toddler are reported to be in good condition.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that around 50 rockets targeted the Galilee region, with some intercepted by air defenses. However, several rockets struck the Karmiel area and surrounding towns. Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was aimed at a “Paratroopers Brigade training base” in Karmiel, the outlet reported.
The IDF intercepted a drone launched from Lebanon near the northern kibbutz of Malkia. Earlier in the day, another drone crashed in an open field near the Western Galilee town of Liman, sparking a small brush fire.
The outlet reported that Hezbollah launched a two-wave rocket attack on Haifa, one of the largest assaults on the port city in recent fighting. The first barrage of 80 rockets was mostly intercepted, though some landed within city limits. The second barrage consisted of 10 rockets, all of which were either intercepted or fell in open areas.

In the Haifa suburb of Kiryat Ata, several homes and vehicles sustained damage. Four people were injured, including a 52-year-old who was moderately wounded by shrapnel. A teenager and an elderly man suffered minor injuries from glass shards, while a 55-year-old man was hurt in a fall while seeking shelter, according to TTOI.
The IDF responded with a drone strike that destroyed a Hezbollah rocket launcher used in the Haifa attack. Other northern communities also faced rocket fire throughout the day.
The attacks come as the IDF continues its operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, aiming to secure the region and allow around 60,000 displaced northern residents to safely return home. The escalation follows a series of near-daily attacks since Hamas’s coordinated assault on October 7, 2023.
