Brooksville Man Arrested After Suspicious Behavior Leads To Discovery Of Altered VIN

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A Brooksville man is facing charges after his suspicious behavior at a gas station led to the discovery of a motorcycle with an altered Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

On Monday night, Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies observed Dennis Koehler, 52, acting suspiciously near a motorcycle in the parking lot of a 7-Eleven on Cortez Boulevard. Koehler initially tried to avoid the deputies but was later found kneeling near some bushes behind the store.

When questioned, Koehler gave conflicting accounts about his destination and denied owning the motorcycle. However, a store clerk confirmed that Koehler had arrived on the motorcycle.

Further investigation revealed that the motorcycle’s VIN had been altered. Koehler eventually admitted to driving the motorcycle and confessed to not having a valid driver’s license.

He was arrested and charged with possession of a vehicle with an altered VIN and driving with a suspended license (third or subsequent offense). He is being held without bond in the Hernando County Detention Center.
