Inmate Dies After Being Transported From Pinellas County Jail To Hospital

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Detectives are investigating the death of a 47-year-old inmate who passed away at a local hospital after being transported from the Pinellas County Jail.

John Garey was booked into the jail on September 16th on charges of aggravated stalking and written threats to kill. Early on the morning of October 31st, Garey was transported to the hospital due to ongoing medical issues.

He was pronounced deceased at the hospital shortly after midnight on November 1st.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Robbery/Homicide Unit is investigating the death, which is standard procedure for any in-custody death. Preliminary findings indicate that Garey was not involved in any physical altercations or sustained any injuries while at the jail.

Garey’s next of kin has been notified, and the investigation is ongoing.
