Following the release of the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ October jobs report, which revealed the loss of over 900,000 full-time jobs over the past year, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) issued a statement criticizing the Biden-Harris administration’s economic agenda.

“Today’s report is a disturbing reality and shows the impacts of the disastrous Biden-Harris administration’s abysmal economic agenda and misplaced priorities. Nearly one million full-time jobs were lost,” said Scott.

The report showed a sharp rise in part-time work, with nearly 1.2 million additional part-time jobs year-over-year and a troubling increase of 1.67 million Americans taking on multiple jobs to make ends meet.

While the unemployment rate remained steady in the Friday report at 4.1%, meeting expectations, the broader unemployment measure, which includes discouraged workers and those working part-time for economic reasons, also held at 7.7%.

The BLS report noted the Boeing strike likely contributed to a 44,000-job drop in manufacturing, which saw a total loss of 46,000 jobs. Additionally, hurricanes Helene and Milton affected the job market, though the BLS couldn’t quantify the storms’ exact impact.

“Over the past year, and the last month, more people are having to take on part-time jobs to get by. This report is showing the devastating reality of folks across the country and many are struggling. When I travel around Florida and talk to families, I hear heartbreaking stories about parents having to take on multiple jobs, folks losing their jobs, and having to go without just to scrape by,” blasted Scott. “Growing up in public housing, I watched my parents work hard but still struggle to put food on the table. My mother worked multiple jobs just to make ends meet—and a lot of times, we went without. The Biden-Harris agenda is a total disaster for hardworking Americans, and I’m fighting like hell to stop it & make Washington work for Florida families.”

It’s worth noting that this is the last major economic report before Election Day, so it’s sure to be a topic of conversation in the final days of the campaign.
