MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A Florida woman’s alleged assault on her roommate has landed her in jail after the victim’s iPhone, tossed into a canal during the altercation, captured the entire incident on video.
36-year-old Megan Elizabeth Heding of Big Coppitt Key was arrested on Friday and charged with battery, burglary, robbery, and grand theft.
The incident unfolded around 4:40 a.m. on Riveria Drive when Heding allegedly kicked in her roommate’s bedroom door and proceeded to push and shove her. Heding then took the victim’s iPhone and threw it into a nearby canal.

Unbeknownst to Heding, the phone was recording video at the time and continued to do so even after being submerged in water. This footage corroborated the victim’s account of the assault, leading to Heding’s arrest.
Heding was booked into the Monroe County Jail.
