Red Tide Update: Bloom Persists Along Gulf Coast Of Florida

Red tide continues to affect areas along Florida’s Gulf Coast, with high concentrations of the red tide organism, Karenia brevis, detected in multiple locations.

Over the past week, water samples revealed bloom concentrations in:

  • Offshore Pinellas County: 1 sample
  • Offshore Manatee County: 2 samples
  • Sarasota County (in and offshore): 5 samples
  • Offshore Charlotte County: 4 samples
  • Offshore Lee County: 8 samples
  • Offshore Collier County: 1 sample

Regional Breakdown:

  • Southwest Florida: K. brevis was present in varying concentrations in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, Lee, and Collier counties. Bloom concentrations were observed in Sarasota, Charlotte, and Lee counties.
  • Northwest Florida: Low concentrations were detected in Franklin County.
  • East Coast: No red tide was observed along Florida’s East Coast.

Impacts:

Fish kills suspected to be related to red tide were reported in Pinellas, Sarasota, Charlotte, and Lee counties. Respiratory irritation was also reported in these counties.
