The recreational harvest season for greater amberjack in the Gulf of Mexico is coming to a close. Anglers have until October 31st to catch this popular sport fish, as the season closes in both state and federal waters starting November 1st.

This closure is part of a new, shorter season designed to help rebuild the greater amberjack population. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) aligned the state’s recreational season with the federal season, which now runs from September 1st through October 31st.

Anglers are reminded to familiarize themselves with the current regulations for greater amberjack before heading out on the water. Details can be found on the FWC website at MyFWC.com/Marine [invalid URL removed] by clicking on “Recreational Regulations” and “Amberjack.”

The FWC encourages anglers to continue enjoying Florida’s diverse fishing opportunities while respecting the regulations put in place to conserve valuable marine resources.
