The Supreme Court of Texas will be holding a special session at the University of Houston Law Center on Tuesday, October 29th. Two civil cases will be heard in the Danny M. Sheena Courtroom at the John. M. O’Quinn Law Building.

This event marks the Court’s first visit to the Law Center since 2017. The Court travels biannually to different locations across Texas to make its proceedings more accessible to the public and promote understanding of the state’s judicial system.

Law Center Dean Leonard M. Baynes expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the Court in their newly opened building, highlighting the opportunity for students and the public to witness “great lawyering and judging in action.”

The two cases to be heard involve distinct legal issues:

  • Myers-Woodward, LLC v. Underground Servs. Markham, LLC: This case focuses on oil and gas royalty payments and ownership rights related to underground salt caverns.
  • Stary v. Ethridge: This case delves into constitutional law, examining the burden of proof required for permanent protective orders that restrict contact between a parent and child.

This event offers a unique chance for the public to observe the Texas Supreme Court in session and gain insight into the legal process.
