The Tampa Bay Lightning suffered a 5-2 defeat against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena on Monday night. Despite outshooting the Maple Leafs 34-29 and winning 63% of faceoffs, the Lightning couldn’t overcome a strong offensive performance by Toronto.

Nick Paul and Brayden Point scored for the Lightning, with assists from Victor Hedman, Mitchell Chaffee, and Nikita Kucherov. Kucherov extended his point streak to five games, becoming only the second Lightning player in franchise history to achieve multiple season-opening point streaks of five games or more.

Despite the loss, the Lightning showed offensive firepower, with several players contributing and maintaining impressive individual streaks. However, they were unable to contain the Maple Leafs’ scoring, ultimately leading to their second consecutive loss.

The Lightning now stand at 3-2-0 overall and will look to bounce back in their upcoming game against the New Jersey Devils.
