Two areas of disturbed weather are being monitored for potential tropical development in the Atlantic and Caribbean, according to the National Hurricane Center. Neither disturbance currently poses a significant threat of becoming a tropical storm.

Near the Leeward Islands: A disorganized cluster of showers and thunderstorms east of the Leeward Islands has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone over the next few days.

It’s expected to move quickly west-northwestward, passing near the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Friday, and Hispaniola and the southeastern Bahamas on Saturday. Strong upper-level winds are likely to limit development by the end of the weekend.

Western Caribbean Sea: A broad area of low pressure over the western Caribbean Sea is producing showers and thunderstorms. While some gradual development is possible over the next few days, heavy rainfall is expected across parts of Central America and southern Mexico through the weekend, regardless of whether it becomes a tropical cyclone.

Chances of Formation:

  • Disturbance 1: 20% over the next 48 hours, 30% over the next 7 days
  • Disturbance 2: 20% over the next 48 hours, 20% over the next 7 days
