WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The City of Winter Haven is pleased to announce Vance Monroe as its new Chief of Police. Monroe, a decorated U.S. Air Force veteran and seasoned law enforcement professional, brings over 26 years of experience to the role.
He most recently served as a Major and Division Commander with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, where he oversaw municipal policing services and played a key role in school safety and other vital public safety initiatives.

Monroe’s career has been characterized by a dedication to community engagement, proactive policing, and a strong leadership style. His commitment to public service began during his military service, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. This foundation has carried through to his law enforcement career, where he has earned a reputation for prioritizing the safety and well-being of the community he serves.
In addition to his extensive field experience, Monroe holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s in Organizational Management from Warner University. He is also a graduate of prestigious training programs, including the Southern Police Institute and the Senior Management Institute of Public Safety.

To ensure a seamless transition, Monroe joined the City of Winter Haven prior to the retirement of the previous chief, allowing for close collaboration with department and city leaders. He is now fully prepared to take the helm of the Winter Haven Police Department.
The community is invited to attend a public Oath of Office Ceremony to officially welcome Chief Monroe on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Nora Mayo Hall, 500 Third St. NW, Winter Haven.
