Bicyclist Killed In Bradenton Hit-And-Run, Driver Apprehended

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. – A 21-year-old Bradenton man is facing charges after a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a bicyclist.

The incident occurred around 2:30 am Saturday on US-41 (14th Street West) north of the intersection with 66th Avenue West. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Darien Mykel Olliff was driving his vehicle northbound when he struck a bicyclist who was also traveling northbound.

The bicyclist, who was not using lights on their bike, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Olliff fled the scene after the collision but was later apprehended by the Bradenton Police Department during a traffic stop. His vehicle had front-end damage consistent with the crash.

Following an investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit, Olliff was arrested and booked into the Manatee County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
