TREASURE ISLAND, Fla. – The City of Treasure Island has announced the cancellation of its renowned Sanding Ovations Masters Cup sand sculpting competition, originally scheduled for November 21-24 and November 30 to December 1. The decision comes in the wake of extensive damage caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

The devastating storms have left Treasure Island’s beaches and infrastructure in a state of disrepair, making it impossible to host the event safely. Damage to the beach’s electrical systems, coupled with the unsuitable condition of the sand, are major factors in the decision. Additionally, host hotels are unable to accommodate guests, and parking areas are currently being used for recovery operations.

“We are heartbroken that we cannot share this experience with the thousands of attendees who travel from around the world to enjoy it each year. However, our focus must now be on healing and rebuilding our community,” said the City of Treasure Island.

The Sanding Ovations Masters Cup is a signature event for Treasure Island, drawing thousands of visitors each year to witness world-class sand sculptures, live music, and a variety of festivities. The cancellation is a significant loss for the city, both economically and culturally.

The city expressed its gratitude for the understanding and support of attendees, sponsors, and the community. Sanding Ovations is scheduled to return next year on November 20-23, with the Encore Weekend on November 29-30.
