William Robert Norwood III, a 41-year-old from Greer, South Carolina, admitted his role in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, pleading guilty to a felony charge of obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder.
Norwood’s actions, captured in court documents and video footage, reveal he joined the mob that stormed the Capitol following a rally by then-President Trump. He illegally entered the building, roamed through restricted areas including Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office suite, and participated in a forceful breach of the East Rotunda doors, allowing hundreds of rioters to flood in.
His own videos show him shouting obscenities and threats towards law enforcement officers. After exiting the Capitol, Norwood stole a police helmet and plate carrier. He was arrested in South Carolina in February 2021.
Norwood’s sentencing is scheduled for February 21, 2025. He faces a potential maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

This case is part of the ongoing investigation into the January 6th insurrection. Over 1,532 individuals have been charged in connection with the Capitol breach, with more than 571 facing felony charges for assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
