St. Petersburg Begins Post-Milton Recovery: Sewer Service Restored, Water Outages Persist

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – As dawn breaks after Hurricane Milton’s passage, St. Petersburg is beginning to assess the extent of the damage and work towards recovery. City crews are deployed, but residents are urged to stay off the roads until authorities deem it safe.

Overnight Impacts

The city experienced significant impacts from the storm, including:

  • High Winds: Sustained winds reached 83 mph with gusts up to 101 mph.
  • Heavy Rainfall: Approximately 18 inches of rain fell.
  • Power Outages: 395,000 residents in Pinellas County are without power.
  • Localized Flooding: Extreme flooding is reported between 22nd Ave. N and 58th St. N, and Central Ave. and 58th St. N.
  • Structural Damage: A large portion of the Tropicana Field roof was blown off, and a crane collapsed at the 400 Central construction site. No injuries were reported in either incident.

Sewer Service Restored

City crews worked diligently to restore sewer services, and both the Northeast and Southwest Sewer Treatment Plants are now back online.

Water Outage Continues

Unfortunately, a major water main break prior to the storm has led to a citywide shutdown of drinking water service. Residents and businesses may experience limited or no water service. A sheriff’s helicopter is assisting in locating the leak.

Other Updates

  • Roadways: Police officers are working to clear roads and assess damage.
  • Trash and Recycling: Services are suspended for today as sanitation workers assist with clearing debris.
