Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper has been hailed a hero after rescuing a dog that was found tied to a pole on I-75 near Bruce B Downs Blvd this morning. The dog, apparently abandoned during the Hurricane Milton evacuation, was discovered standing in rising floodwaters.

“Do NOT do this to your pets, please,” the FHP pleaded in a social media post featuring a video of the rescue.

The footage shows the trooper approaching the frightened dog, who is barking and growling from fear and stress. “It’s okay, buddy. I don’t blame you,” the trooper can be heard saying reassuringly.

After gaining the dog’s trust, the trooper was able to untie him and lead him to safety. The FHP then transported the dog to a local veterinarian, where he was examined and thankfully given a clean bill of health.
