The charges stem from an incident in August 2024. Due to the Major Crimes Act, a federal law requiring certain violent crimes in Indian Country to be prosecuted in federal court, the U.S. Attorney’s Office is handling the case.
The Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident. Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Lindrooth is prosecuting the case.
White Butterfly is currently in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service while awaiting trial. A trial date has not yet been set.
