Tampa Opens Sandbag Sites Ahead Of Weekend Rain

TAMPA, Fla. – With severe weather predicted for this weekend, the City of Tampa is offering residents and business owners the opportunity to prepare by providing sandbags.

Sandbag Distribution:

Two sandbag sites will be open on Saturday, October 5th, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

  • Himes Avenue Complex: 4501 S Himes Avenue
  • Al Barnes Park: 2902 N 32nd Street

This proactive measure comes in response to the National Weather Service forecast, which predicts heavy rain in the Tampa Bay area from Sunday through Thursday.

Flood Safety:

The City of Tampa is urging drivers to exercise caution and avoid driving through flooded areas. Flooded streets or debris should be reported to (813) 274-3101 so that authorities can respond. Owners of electric vehicles are advised to park their cars on higher ground to minimize the risk of battery-related fires in the event of flooding.

Comfort Stations Remain Open:

For residents still recovering from Hurricane Helene, the City of Tampa’s three Comfort Stations will remain open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. until further notice. These stations offer a variety of resources, including:

  • Food and water
  • Free laundry assistance
  • Charging stations
  • FEMA resources

  • DeSoto Park: 2617 Corrine Street
  • Marjorie Park: 97 Columbia Drive
  • Gandy Civic Association: 4207 W Oklahoma Avenue
