A Georgia man is facing up to 10 years in federal prison after being convicted of possessing unregistered destructive devices.
Waylon Blake Gilreath, Sr., 43, of Williamson, Georgia, was arrested in March 2024 after Montgomery County deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at a Hope Hull, Alabama residence. Gilreath was found to be in violation of a protection order and was taken into custody.

A search of Gilreath’s vehicle uncovered a disturbing arsenal: nine firearms (including handguns and AR-style rifles), ammunition, high-capacity magazines, body armor, and, most alarmingly, four prescription bottles containing an explosive mixture.
Lab analysis confirmed the presence of explosive substances commonly used in exploding targets, with three of the devices containing shrapnel intended to increase their destructive power.
Gilreath’s sentencing hearing is expected to be scheduled in the coming months. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison without the possibility of parole.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with state and local law enforcement agencies, investigated the case.
