A 21-year-old man in Austin, Texas, is facing capital murder charges after police discovered his grandparents dead in their home. The chilling incident unfolded on September 21st when concerned callers alerted the Austin Police Department to a possible problem at a residence on Brookhill Drive.

Callers reported that Chevy Kyler Monaghan was refusing to allow anyone to see his grandparents, 75-year-old Shari Mallory-Maxa and 76-year-old Anthony Maxa. When officers arrived, they found Monaghan in the driveway, casually packing bags into his grandmother’s car.

Despite claiming his grandparents were fine, Monaghan’s demeanor raised red flags. According to an arrest affidavit, he appeared “nonchalant” and even took a moment to light up a marijuana cigarette and crack open a soda while speaking with officers.

However, the situation took a grim turn when police discovered ammunition, his grandmother’s pearls, and prescription medication in Monaghan’s pockets. Further investigation revealed boxes of women’s jewelry loaded into the vehicle.
