Christopher Vickers, 41, of Evansville, Indiana, will spend the next eight years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession and receipt of child sexual abuse material. Following his prison term, Vickers will be under supervised release for 15 years.

The investigation began in July 2023 when authorities were alerted to a Snapchat account used to upload and share illegal images and videos. The account was traced back to Vickers. A search of his apartment revealed hundreds of disturbing images and videos on his cell phones, including depictions of young children engaged in sexual acts with adults.

Disturbingly, investigators also discovered underwear belonging to young girls in Vickers’ closet, which he admitted to stealing from children he had access to. It was also revealed that Vickers was engaged in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl.

“Pedophiles use social media platforms like Snapchat to share their interests with like-minded individuals—gathering online to traffic in child sexual abuse materials,” said Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. “Prosecution of these criminals helps make our children safer and sends the message that Snapchat and other platforms are not a safe space for predators to trade in images of abuse. Together with our partners at the FBI and local police departments, our office will continue to vigorously prosecute child sex offenders and seek to send them to federal prison where they cannot further harm our children.”

The FBI and Evansville Police Department investigated the case, and U.S. District Judge Richard L. Young imposed the sentence. Vickers will be required to register as a sex offender following his release.
