A Mexican national, Juan Rodriguez-Acevedo, 57, has been sentenced to 46 months (3 years and 10 months) in federal prison for illegally re-entering the United States after being deported. This sentencing follows a guilty plea entered by Rodriguez-Acevedo in June 2024.
Rodriguez-Acevedo has a history of illegal re-entry into the U.S. He was originally deported in 2018 following a 2007 conviction for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, an aggravated felony that resulted in a permanent ban from the country.

Despite this ban, Rodriguez-Acevedo illegally crossed the border again in 2019 and was subsequently deported in 2021 after serving time for illegal re-entry. He was apprehended yet again in March 2024 in Lake City, Florida, admitting to having illegally re-entered the U.S. in June 2023.
This case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by immigration enforcement in preventing individuals with criminal records from repeatedly entering the United States illegally.
