HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County Administrator Bonnie Wise has signed an executive order extending the county’s state of local emergency, under the authority of the County’s Emergency Management Ordinance and Florida Statutes Chapter 252.

The original emergency declaration was issued on Sept. 23 as Hurricane Helene approached Florida. This extension will remain in effect through Oct. 7.

A state of local emergency can only last for seven days unless it is rescinded or extended. The declaration allows the County Administrator and emergency managers to take swift action to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the community, while also facilitating federal reimbursement for certain storm-related expenses.

Governor Ron DeSantis also declared a state of emergency for the state of Florida in response to the hurricane.
