PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – A high-speed chase on US-19 early this morning ended in a tragic multi-vehicle collision, resulting in one fatality and several injuries.

A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper attempted to stop a Toyota Camry driving over the median, but the driver evaded the stop, leading to a pursuit. Despite a PIT maneuver, the Camry continued south.

At 38th Avenue North, the Camry swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid a turning truck, colliding with two vehicles stopped at a red light. One occupant of the Camry was fatally injured, while others involved sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Troopers are still working to identify the Camry’s driver among its four occupants, all young adults aged 18 to 20 from St. Petersburg. As the investigation continues, no charges have been filed yet.
