Former Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Tom Homan criticized the Biden administration’s border policies during an appearance on Fox News Friday, arguing that the current approach is empowering criminal cartels and compromising national security by allowing millions of immigrants into the U.S.
Since the Biden-Harris administration took office, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has reported over 7 million migrant encounters at the southern border. Homan claimed that without a change in leadership, illegal immigration will continue to surge, and he suggested that only former President Donald Trump can effectively address the crisis.
“They’re not going anywhere unless President Trump is back in the White House,” Homan told Laura Ingraham, referring to the influx of migrants from Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba. He criticized the administration’s use of the CBP1 app, which allows migrants to schedule appointments for processing at the U.S.-Mexico border. According to Homan, even Mexico has stepped up enforcement to prevent Trump’s return to office. “The criminal cartels in Mexico, who are making billions of dollars every month, don’t want President Trump to be president,” Homan added.
According to the American Immigration Council, migrants seeking asylum use the CBP1 app to pre-schedule their processing at the border.
Homan further claimed that Mexico and global terrorist organizations benefiting from the porous southwest border oppose Trump’s presidency because it would disrupt their activities.
Adding to these concerns, a federal letter disclosed on Wednesday revealed that thousands of illegal migrants and non-citizens convicted of serious crimes, including homicide and sexual assault, are currently free in the U.S. The letter, addressed to Republican Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales, reported that as of July 21, over 662,566 non-citizens with criminal records were on ICE’s national docket, including both detained and non-detained individuals.
Reports also suggest that the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua is exploiting the current border crisis to expand its operations into the U.S., with immigration authorities struggling to identify gang members before they enter the country.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris avoided giving a direct response when asked about her strategy for addressing illegal immigration during a Sept. 19 forum hosted by Oprah Winfrey. Instead, Harris discussed her background as California’s Attorney General and mentioned the failure of a bipartisan border bill, without specifically addressing the current border situation.
