After extensive discussions, Iraq and the United States have agreed to transition the Coalition’s military mission in Iraq over the next twelve months, concluding by the end of September 2025. The focus will shift towards bilateral security partnerships, supporting Iraqi forces and maintaining pressure on ISIS.
While the Coalition’s military mission in Iraq will conclude, its operations in Syria will continue until September 2026, aiming to prevent the resurgence of ISIS. The Higher Military Commission will define the specific procedures, timelines, and mechanisms for this transition, including measures to protect Coalition advisors in Iraq.

Iraq expressed gratitude for the Coalition’s support in combating ISIS and acknowledged the significant role of the United States. Both nations are committed to strengthening their relationship through security assistance and cooperation, guided by mutual respect and the U.S.-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement.
This transition marks a decade since the Coalition’s military mission began in Iraq. Iraq is actively engaging with the US and other Coalition members to establish bilateral security relations as appropriate. The Iraqi government has reaffirmed its commitment to protect international advisors present in the country.
