PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – Pasco County residents are urged to exercise extreme caution in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, as the Pasco Sheriff’s Office is receiving a surge of reports concerning downed power lines across the region.
These downed lines, often hidden amidst debris or obscured by fallen trees, present a significant and potentially lethal hazard.
Electricity can travel through the ground, so it is crucial to never approach a downed power line, even if it appears inactive. Always assume that a downed power line is live and energized.

If you come across a downed power line, maintain a safe distance and immediately report it to law enforcement by calling the Pasco Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 727-847-8102, option 7.
Remember, your safety is paramount. Do not attempt to move or touch a downed power line under any circumstances. Leave the handling of these dangerous situations to trained professionals.
In addition to downed power lines, residents should also be wary of other electrical hazards in the wake of the storm. Avoid standing water, as it may be electrified due to submerged power lines or damaged electrical equipment. If you must evacuate your home, do so cautiously and be aware of your surroundings.
By remaining vigilant and following these safety precautions, we can help prevent further injuries and ensure a safe recovery for our community.
