PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. – Pinellas County residents are urged to begin sheltering in place immediately as Hurricane Helene approaches. The Category 4 storm is expected to bring significant storm surge flooding, tropical storm force winds, rain, and potential power outages.
Conditions are already deteriorating rapidly, particularly in the barrier islands, and will soon worsen across Zone A. Residents should plan to stay indoors and remain in a safe location until the storm has completely passed.

Safety Precautions
- If water enters your home, turn off electricity and gas, and move to the highest point possible with an escape route.
- Residents outside Zone A should also stay indoors until an all-clear is issued.
- Avoid driving or walking through flooded areas due to potential hazards.
- Stay away from downed power lines and report them to authorities.
- Use generators safely outdoors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
Storm Surge and Flooding
Storm surge is expected to peak tonight, but flooding may persist into Friday. Pinellas County Public Works will begin assessing damage and clearing roads as soon as it’s safe.
