PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – A Pasco County man’s attempt to evade a deputy during a loitering investigation has landed him an 8-year federal prison sentence. Richard Salino Garcia, 40, was found guilty of possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.
The incident unfolded on December 2, 2022, when a Pasco Sheriff’s deputy approached Garcia behind a closed business.

As the deputy attempted a pat down, Garcia bolted, leading to a physical struggle where citizens stepped in to assist the officer. Deputies eventually apprehended Garcia and discovered a loaded .357 revolver on him.
Garcia’s extensive criminal record, including felony battery and fleeing to elude, prohibited him from possessing firearms. This case was jointly investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Pasco Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant United States Attorney Samantha E. Beckman leading the prosecution.

In addition to the prison sentence, Garcia was ordered to forfeit the firearm and ammunition. This case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences faced by convicted felons who illegally possess firearms.
