POLK COUNTY, Fla. – The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating two major crashes that occurred on Sunday evening, September 22nd, 2024.

The first crash occurred in the Frostproof area on Alturas Babson Park Cutoff Road near US 27. Deputies responded to the scene at approximately 8:21 p.m. At least two vehicles were involved, and six people were injured and transported to hospitals.

Three individuals were taken by ambulance, while three others, including one child, were airlifted. The extent of their injuries remains unknown, but at least one person sustained severe, potentially life-threatening injuries.

The second crash occurred north of Lakeland on Rockridge Road near Country Place Road. PCSO units arrived at approximately 8:36 p.m. It appears a single vehicle collided with a tree, resulting in one fatality.

Both crashes are currently under investigation.
