Homosassa Man And Woman Killed In Head-On Collision In Hernando County

HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A devastating head-on collision on State Road 589 near County Line Road has resulted in the deaths of two drivers and left two passengers injured.

The accident occurred this morning around 12:40 am when a Volkswagen Jetta, driven by a 45-year-old Homosassa man, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of SR-589. The Jetta collided head-on with a northbound Honda Odyssey driven by a 47-year-old Homosassa woman.

The impact caused both vehicles to rotate and overturn, coming to rest in the median and on the shoulder. Both drivers were tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in the Honda Odyssey, a 20-year-old Inverness woman and a 20-year-old Homosassa man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
