MIAMI, Fla. – Orlando Chavez, 43, a convicted child molester, was found guilty of naturalization fraud and using a fraudulently obtained naturalization certificate on September 11th.

Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Chavez, born in Cuba, lied on his 2017 Application for Naturalization, denying any involvement in sexual offenses or crimes he had not been arrested for. Despite having committed child abuse against a minor in 2014, he was granted US citizenship in 2018 and subsequently used his fraudulently obtained certificate to apply for a passport.

Chavez’s child abuse conviction came in 2019, after he had already become a naturalized citizen.

U.S. District Judge Roy Altman will sentence Chavez on January 8th. In addition to any imposed sentence, Chavez’s citizenship will be revoked.
