Florida Senator Rick Scott has penned a letter to Brown University’s Board of Trustees, urging them to reconsider their decision to hold a vote on endorsing the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel.
He commends former trustee Joseph Edelman for resigning in protest of the vote and criticizes the board for appeasing radical anti-Israel protestors.

Scott argues that the BDS movement fosters antisemitism and endangers Jewish students. He emphasizes that normalizing views that delegitimize Israel undermines Jewish students’ sense of security and inclusion. He warns that universities that fail to stand up to hate and antisemitism should not receive federal funding.
He also highlights his own commitment to combating antisemitism, citing his past actions as governor of Florida to prohibit BDS. He reiterates his concerns about the increasingly aggressive and antisemitic behavior on campuses nationwide, stating that appeasement policies embolden terrorists and marginalize Jewish Americans.
Scott urges the board to reject hate and prejudice, and to uphold the values of inclusion and respect. He concludes by applauding Joseph Edelman for his principled stand and emphasizing the importance of protecting students and upholding the mission of higher education.
