Hurricane Debby Aftermath: Over 2,000 Claims Filed In Florida, Tampa Bay Area Hardest Hit

Hurricane Debby, which made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane on August 5th near Steinhatchee, has resulted in nearly 2,300 insurance claims as of late August, according to data from the state’s Citizens Property Insurance Corp.

The Tampa Bay region has been particularly affected, with the highest number of claims concentrated in Pinellas County (585), followed by Hillsborough (343), Sarasota (215), Pasco (204), Manatee (142), and Hernando (97) counties.

As of August 29th, 1,524 claims remain open, while 757 have been closed. Of those closed, 75 resulted in payments to policyholders.

The Citizens Board of Governors’ Claims Committee is set to receive a comprehensive briefing on Hurricane Debby’s impact during a meeting on Thursday.
