27 Years Later, Robert “Bruce” McPhail’s Murder Remains Unsolved In Florida

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Today marks the 27th anniversary of the unsolved homicide of Robert “Bruce” McPhail.

On this day in 1997, McPhail was found tragically murdered in the Intercoastal Waterway near the old Sea Ray canal. He had been bound, stabbed multiple times, and shot.

For nearly 26 years, McPhail’s identity remained a mystery until a breakthrough in August 2023, thanks to advancements in DNA technology. Investigators discovered that he was originally from the Kenora/Winnipeg area in Manitoba, Canada, and had relocated to South Florida in the mid-1990s.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit continues to investigate this case actively. They urge anyone with information to come forward, no matter how seemingly insignificant.
