WINTERHAVEN, Fla. – On September 11th, Polk County will come together for the 15th Annual Honoring Our Heroes event, commemorating the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 and paying tribute to all first responders and military personnel.
The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with a Freedom Walk led by the Winter Haven High School Army ROTC honor guard, symbolizing the dedication and sacrifices of those who serve. Following the walk, a poignant ceremony featuring a cross and boot display will honor fallen Polk County heroes.

Local Scouts will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, a multi-agency Honor Guard will present the colors, and various law enforcement agencies will showcase displays.
The event, organized by Winter Haven Public Safety, will include participation from all Polk County law enforcement and fire agencies.
“This event is a way to pull all of Polk County together and show our local heroes how much they mean to us,” said Gary Clark, Chairman of the Polk County Veteran’s Council. “As a community, we should pay tribute to all of those who serve us on a daily basis, putting their lives on the line whether here at home or abroad.”

Join the community in South Central Park, Downtown Winter Haven, on September 11th to honor and remember our heroes. Registration for the Freedom Walk begins at 4:30 p.m. The ceremony and a candlelight vigil will follow.
