The Israeli military announced on Tuesday that it successfully rescued Qaid Farhan Alkadi, one of the individuals taken hostage during Hamas’ attack on October 7. The rescue operation took place in the southern Gaza Strip, although specific details of the mission were not disclosed.
Alkadi, 52, is a member of Israel’s Arab Bedouin minority and was working as a security guard at a packing factory in Kibbutz Magen during the attack. He is a father of 11 children and has two wives. His family was seen rushing to the hospital upon learning of his rescue.

During the October 7 attack, Hamas-led militants abducted around 250 people while killing approximately 1,200, mostly civilians.
While Israel’s counteroffensive in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 Palestinians, according to local officials, it has also displaced 90% of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents.
The ongoing conflict has left around 110 hostages in Hamas’ custody, many of whom are feared dead. So far, Israel has rescued eight hostages, including in two military operations that resulted in the deaths of many Palestinians.

International efforts, particularly from the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, are ongoing in hopes of securing the release of the remaining hostages in exchange for a lasting cease-fire. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has faced mounting pressure from families of hostages and the broader Israeli public, urging him to finalize an agreement with Hamas to bring them home.
