SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. – A major crash involving two vehicles has shut down all southbound lanes of Tamiami Trail South (U.S. 41) at Colonia Lane East in Nokomis on Saturday. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Florida Highway Patrol in the investigation.
Several people involved in the crash were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries is not yet known.
The road closure lasted several hours and drivers were urged to find alternate routes and avoid the area.
