Following a day-long search, Danya Dewey, 39, is in custody on suspicion of killing her mother, Lori Pallinger, 63. Pallinger’s remains were discovered during a wellness check at her home on Clarks Crossing Way on August 22nd, prompting a homicide investigation by the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities had asked the public for help locating Dewey, who was reportedly seen acting strangely in the area.

On August 23rd, officials from the Sheriff’s Office and the Asheville Police Department located Dewey’s vehicle.
After refusing to exit, she was eventually persuaded to surrender peacefully by the Asheville Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team.
Dewey is currently being held without bond in the Buncombe County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder. She is scheduled to appear in court on August 26th.

Authorities have not released the cause of Pallinger’s death.
