A man facing charges related to child rape and incest fled from his jury trial in Tennessee on Thursday. He was later fatally shot by law enforcement officers at a hotel in Western Kentucky after a brief standoff.
The Graves County Sheriff’s Office received information that the man was potentially suicidal and in the Mayfield area. Deputies located his vehicle at the Wingfield Inn and attempted to arrest him, but a struggle ensued, leading to a standoff.
The man eventually emerged from his motel room brandishing a handgun, ignoring commands from law enforcement. Officers fired, killing the man at the scene.

- Thursday Evening: The Graves County Sheriff’s Office received information from Benton County, Tennessee, about the fugitive. The man was wanted on a nationwide warrant for failing to appear in court and was considered potentially suicidal.
- 10:00 PM: A deputy located the man’s vehicle at the Wingfield Inn in Mayfield, Kentucky.
- Standoff and Shooting: When confronted, the man initially struggled with the deputy and retreated to his motel room. A standoff ensued, with additional deputies and Mayfield police officers responding. The man later emerged from the room brandishing a handgun, and after ignoring commands, was shot and killed by law enforcement.

The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the incident, and two deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave. Body camera footage of the event is available.
